Our Story
My sweet and salty little candy store opened almost 14 years ago. I had no idea what to expect because it was an impulse decision on my part to rent out the old Dutch Girl Chocolates space. I had heard she wanted to sell and when I got to the store to ask about that she was gone and there was a for rent sign on the door. It was a knee jerk response I’ll never regret.
It became abundantly clear shortly after I took possession but long before we opened that everybody was “sick to their stomach” over the loss of the licorice and not so much the chocolate. Once I understood this I had a better vision. I had lived on the drive for 20 years and never knew Dutch Girl Chocolate sold licorice, so I decided to call it the Licorice Parlour to avoid any future confusion.
This worked like a charm. Not only did we reabsorb all her Licorice Loving Soldiers that she had trained for 15 years prior we attracted a massive new crowd by simply calling it what we sold. Sometimes we hear car tires screeching and then a person comes in saying they just saw the sign.
What I love the most about this work is how happy everyone is who comes in. Retail is not always the most pleasant job but at the candy store it really is. People are happy long before arriving some days if they know they are coming to the store later. So, we thrive on that joy.
1. We are unique because we are old fashioned, we curate an incredible line up of imported licorice under one roof, and we excel in our knowledge of licorice much like a sommelier excels in their knowledge of wine.
2. Our main focus is to help design and custom make candy, chocolate and licorice bags for each individual customer’s style and taste.
3. One of the nicest features of our store is the freshness of our products. We store our sweet and salty treats in airtight glass jars to avoid stale goods. We also put a lot of thought into our ordering to ensure nothing sits around very long.
4. Our best seller is licorice, however we have the most incredible lineup of imported candies, chocolate, and memorabilia that any given day they could be the best seller too. Our really best seller is us, The Ladies of Licorice who literally love what we do and love the products we sell.
