Our Story

In the eighties, a Dutchman started a small business selling Dutch products in Coombs. After several changes in ownership and locations the store was operated until 2002 and then closed due to retirement.

However, inspired by the legacy of the store and my Dutch Roots, I decided to revive it in 2003 with fresh ideas and guidance from my very Dutch father, Roel Willekes. Since then the store has grown and flourished, offering a wide variety of authentic Dutch and Indonesian products.

In 2009 my husband Mike started working with me full time. His knowledge of Indonesian products is invaluable since his Mother was born in Sumatra and his Oma did a lot of Indonesian cooking.

For 17 years, the store operated in a space of 1000 sq feet, about 4km down the road from our current location. In 2020 we moved back to Coombs, where it all began. We are now housed in the Old General Store which was constructed in 1911, and have tripled our floor space making us one of the larger dedicated Dutch stores in Canada. In March, 2023 we personally celebrated 20 years in business and are incredibly thankful to all our customers that have supported us through those times and beyond.

We continue to service the Island with our brick and mortar store and sell across North America through our on line store spreading Dutch cheer to the far reaches of this great land.

At our store, work is not just a job, it’s our passion. Our daily does of happiness comes from working with the best customers who make our day and we, along with our staff and partners like Global Reach, look forward to serving the community for years to come!
